Ash FAQs
Because it’s a hardwood, ash is a strong and durable material that is great for stair parts. It is very light in colour with a straight grain that is appealing to the eye, and it’s also perfect for staining or finishing. Overall, ash is a great choice of wood for stair parts.
When left in a damp area, such as outside, ash is prone to rotting. Our stair parts are only suitable for indoor use, and should be finished with a protective treatment to avoid any damage.
When used indoors and finished, there’s no risk of rotting or damage, so ash is still considered an extremely durable wood for stairs.
Ash stair parts provide almost the exact same favourable characteristics as oak, so it’s often seen as an alternative option to oak. Generally, however, oak is cheaper than ash which makes it a strong choice for staircase projects.
